PEEL PARAGRAPHS

Look at the exemplar I gave you last lesson of a good paragraph/essay structure (if you don’t have it look for in the Essay Examples folder)

You can clearly see the PEEL structure being applied!

POINT: The Raven explores the theme of Good vs Evil using characters such as The Raven and Lenore. In the poem, The Raven is a representation of evil. EVIDENCE FROM THE POEM: The protagonist of the text, refers to the Raven as ‘devil’ (Stanza 1, Line 7). This is also reinforced when the Raven says ‘nevermore’ (Stanza 3, Line 4) when the protagonist begs the Raven to answer his desperate pleas.  ELABORATING/EXPLAINING THE EVIDENCE AND WHAT IT MEANS: By ignoring the man’s pleas to leave him alone, it is evident the Raven does not care about the man and intends to prolong his suffering hence repeating the words ‘nevermore’. Eventually, by ignoring the man the Raven destroys the protagonists last hope and drives him to madness. LINKING BACK TO THE EXAM TASK/HOW IT REFLECTS REALITY: This reflects the theme Good vs Evil as the protagonist eventually loses his battle to the Raven. This reflects the reality that evil and death are inevitable and that though we might beg desperately to be left alone, death and suffering will take us in the end.
